Buena Vista, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team traveled to Buena Vista to take on the Knights of Southern Virginia University (1-9, 0-5 CAC). The Seahawks, coming off a dominating win against Capital Athletic Conference opponent, Penn State Harrisburg, looked to continue the streak Saturday afternoon.

In the doubles matches, it was all Seahawks. St. Mary's won all three matches to take an immediate 3-0 lead over Southern Virginia. Sophomore Melissa Barall (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) and junior Marissa Romanek (Sunderland, Md./Huntingtown) had the closest of the three matches at the No. 1 doubles position, posting an 8-5 win, while seniors Liza Moore (Collegeville, Pa./Spring-Ford) and Emily Rost (Gaithersburg, Md./Northwest) and sophomore Chelsea English (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) and senior Mollie Johnson (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) won the No. 2 and No.3 matches, respectively, by an 8-2 decision.

As the matches moved into singles, it was all Seahawks again, taking the last six matches. Romanek had her hands full with junior Kari Stollenwerk (Hales Corner, Wis./Whitnall) at No. 2 singles. The match featured a tie-breaker point in the first set and a tiebreaker set as Romanek won both extra-frame sets, 7-6 (7-2), 4-6, 7-5.

With this win, the Seahawks move to 6-6 on the year and 3-1 in the CAC. The Seahawks take the court next against another CAC challenger, York College of Pennsylvania, on Monday, April 4, which was rescheduled from March 19. The match will be played at home at the Somerset Tennis Complex at 3:30 p.m.
