Box Score St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team put an end to their two-game skid Saturday afternoon with a key 13-7 Capital Athletic Conference win over Marymount (Va.) University on Senior Day.
Team captains Conor Jordan (Rockville, Md./Rockville) and Brendan Steele (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) led the way in the Seahawks victory. Jordan registered a game-high six points on four goals and two assists while Steele finished the day with four goals and a helper.
St. Mary's (4-7, 2-4 CAC) came out with guns ablaze, rattling off nine unanswered goals for a 9-0 halftime advantage. The Seahawks jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first quarter as Jordan tallied two goals and an assist while Steele found the back of the net twice.
Junior defenseman Javier Flores (Hyde Park, Mass./Concord-Carlisle) and senior midfielder Zack Tarallo (Northborough, Mass./Algonquin Reg.) notched their first goals of the season in a 3-0 second quarter for St. Mary's while Steele chipped in a goal and an assist.
Senior midfielder Maxwell Johnson (Shady Side, Md./Southern) led Marymount in its second straight loss with two goals and an assist while sophomore attackman Nathan Beard (Dauphin, Pa./Central Dauphin) contributed a goal and a helper.
Senior captain Austin Toland (Cockeysville, Md./St. Paul's School) extended the Seahawks' lead to 10-0 with the first goal of the third period just 54 seconds in. The Saints (5-7, 1-5 CAC) attempted a rally in the second half, outscoring St. Mary's 7-4 over the final 30 minutes but the early 10-goal hole was just too much to overcome.
The Seahawks outshot Marymount, 46-31, but MU posted a 36-32 margin in ground balls and won 16-of-23 face-offs. Junior midfielder Nick Hohman (Lititz, Pa./Warwick) went 16-of-21 at the X to lead the Saints. The two sides combined for 15:30 minutes of penalties and 21 extra-man opportunities; however, only three man-up goals were scored in the game.
Junior goalie Max Alderman (Baltimore, Md./Calvert Hall) recorded 14 saves and two ground balls in his fourth win of the season while first-year Grey Clarkson (Marlton, N.J./Cherokee) picked up 16 saves for Marymount.
The Seahawks will be back on the field on Wednesday, April 13 as St. Mary's welcomes No. 20 Christopher Newport University to Seahawk Stadium for another conference contest at 4:00 p.m.
