• The Short Story: First-year guard Kyaira Priest (Lexington Park, Md./Chopticon) tallied a season-best 10 points for second time this season Wednesday night as the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's basketball team lost 73-42 to No. 2/3 Christopher Newport University. This is the Seahawks' third straight defeat and drops them to 2-5 overall and 0-3 in Capital Athletic Conference action.

How It Happened

• St. Mary's was held to a pair of field goals, including a three-point basket by senior captain Kerri Kline (Hagerstown, Md./Saint James), in the first quarter as the Captains posted a 22-7 lead after 10 minutes of action.
• Kline's second three-pointer of the half at 6:14 of the second quarter ended a near six-minute scoring drought for the Seahawks.
• CNU used a 30-4 advantage in the paint as well as 22 points off of 20 St. Mary's miscues to boast a 47-20 halftime lead.
• Christopher Newport continued to push and press in the third period, driving its lead to 61-35 heading into the fourth.
• The fourth stanza was St. Mary's best as the Seahawks shot 35.3-percent, including 3-of-7 from downtown, to outscore the visitors, 17-12.

Inside the Box Score

• Priest dropped nine of her season-best 10 points in the fourth quarter alone as she made all three of the team's fourth-quarter three-pointers. She also added a game- and season-best four steals plus two rebounds.
• Junior forward Kobe Chaney (Edgewater, Md./South River) is now three shy of her 500th career rebound as Chaney pulled down a game-best eight boards and contributed five points along with season-bests of three steals and two assists.
• Kline and fellow classmate and captain Olivia Nowlin (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) each chipped in eight points while Kline also grabbed five caroms and Nowlin collected four rebounds and three helpers.
• Jessica Daguilh came off the bench to provide 11 points and seven rebounds as the Captains owned a 58-33 rebounding advantage for the game.
