Seahawk Women's Tennis Drops Conference Opener to No. 24 Christopher Newport

St. Mary's City, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's tennis team (4-5, 0-1 CAC) dropped their Capital Athletic Conference opening match, 9-0, to the visiting 24th-ranked Captains of Christopher Newport University (8-4, 2-1 CAC) on Wednesday.

Doubles

  • Team captains Marissa Romanek (Sunderland, Md./Huntingtown) and Melissa Barall (Columbia, Md./Wilde Lake) fell to the Captains' top doubles pair, McKinney Harwood and Johanna Ranta-aho, by way of an 8-3 decision.
  • Juniors Raziela Manangan (Baltimore, Md./Institute of Notre Dame) and Chelsea English (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) would win two games in their No. 2 doubles matchup.

Singles

  • The Seahawks did not see a ton of success in singles either, dropping all six matches against Christopher Newport.
  • St. Mary's will look to bounce back with another home match on Friday against CAC rival Southern Virginia University.
