Seahawk Baseball Closes 2017 Season at Catholic

Washington, D.C. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team would close the 2017 season at The Catholic University of America on Saturday afternoon in a non-conference doubleheader. The Seahawks would fall in both games.

How It Happened

  • Senior second baseman Zach Rowe (Davidsonville, Md./Calvert Hall) had a strong showing with two hits and an RBI to lead the Seahawks.
  • In the top of the fifth, Rowe would single to the second baseman to score sophomore shortstop Brandon Snow (Owings, Md./Northern).
  • Catholic would take the lead early on with three runs in the second inning. After two scoreless innings, the Cardinals would capture two runs in the fifth and two more in the sixth to top the Seahawks.

  • Hitting: Brennan Cotter (2-for-3, home run, 2 RBI, 1 run); Jack Hennessy (2-for-3, 2 RBI, 1 run)
  • Pitching: Jon Mierzwa (No decision, 4.0 IP, 7 strikeouts, 3 hits); Joseph Prego (W, 2-1) (1.0 IP, 2 hits, 1 unearned run, 1 walk); Jonah Jimenez (1.0 IP, 1 strikeout, 1 hit); Mark Duffy (1.0 IP, 1 hit, 1 strikeout)

How It Happened

  • Sophomore centerfielder Lucas Kraft (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg) would tally two hits and an RBI as he led the Seahawks in game two against Catholic.
  • Kraft and Rowe would both hit a double to contribute to the Seahawk offense.
  • In the top of the first, Kraft would single to left field to drive in first-year first baseman Jay Hammett (Coltons Point, Md./Chopticon).
  • Catholic would go on a four-run scoring rally in the first to establish a 4-1 lead.
  • The Cardinals would score two runs in the third and two more in the fifth to top the Seahawks.

For St. Mary's (9-22)

  • Hitting: Kraft (2-for-3, 1 RBI, double)
  • Pitching: Ben Goldsmith (L, 1-4) (5.0 IP, 2 strikeouts, 9 hits, 8 runs, 2 walks); Reid D'Antuono (1.0 IP, 1 hit)

For Catholic (26-11)
