ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's basketball team (0-1) hosted the Washington College Shoremen (1-0) in the Dan Greene/Wayne Cook Memorial Tournament for their season opener on Friday (Nov. 8) night. The Seahawks fell to the Shoremen 77-75 in extra time.

How It Happened

• The Seahawks started the game strong and gained a 7-2 edge with a three-ball from Reggie Rouse. Miles Gillette followed Rouse with two free throws and a made jumper for the early advantage. Both squads exchanged blows throughout the first half and came to a 25-25 tie. St. Mary's College captured the momentum once again with a five-point scoring streak with buckets from Gary Grant and Justin Milstead. Grant finished the half strong with a jumper to put the Seahawks ahead by seven with 17 seconds remaining. St. Mary's College brought a 37-30 lead into halftime.

• Washington College grabbed the advantage in the early stages of the second half by knocking down nine-straight points for a 39-37 lead. St. Mary's College willed themselves back into the contest and evened the game at 66-66 with 2:16 remaining. Trailing by one with under five seconds remaining, Milstead drove to the rack and drew a foul, sending him to the charity stripe for two free throws. Milstead knocked down one to push the game into overtime.

• The Seahawks built a 75-71 advantage with 53 second remaining, but the Shoremen stormed back with back-to-back three pointers to take a two point advantage with 10 seconds remaining. St. Mary's College failed to tie the game with their last possession for the loss.

Inside the Box Score

• First-year forward Grant had an excellent collegiate debut and led the Seahawks in scoring with 22 points, shooting 50-percent from the field. Gillette also had an impressive Seahawk debut by leading the Seahawks with nine rebounds and adding 21 points. Milstead was the final Seahawk to reach double-digits with 14 points.

• On the defensive end, Tryllian Young recorded a team-best two blocks, while Gillette and Rouse led the team with two steals each.

• Alec Lewis led the Shoremen with 17 points on the evening.
