St. Mary's City, MD-- The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Basketball Team (2-1) played their second and last game of the Seahawk invitational today (Nov. 12) against the University of Pittsburgh-Bradford (0-2). The Seahawks used a strong bounce back performance to take down the Panthers 71-51. 

How It Happened

• The Seahawks and Panthers were neck and neck over the first 9 minutes of the first quarter, as both teams would let up a scoring run and then go on one of their own. The Seahawks were finally able to get some breathing room in the final minute thanks to a Rachel Manning three pointer and a Stephanie Howell free throw. St. Mary's led 19-15 after one. 

• The second quarter proved to be a defensive battle, as both teams struggled to convert from the field. Karon Williams and Samantha Blaylock proved to be the difference makers in the quarter for the Seahawks. Blaylock knocked down the lone three pointer of the period and Karon Williams converted on two big jump shots down the stretch to give St. Mary's their first double digit lead of the game. The Panthers were able to cut it back down to single digits, but the Seahawks still led 31-23 going into the break 

• Samantha Blaylock continued to heat up for the Seahawks. Blaylock converted on three long balls and chipped in a few layups to give the Seahawks their largest lead of the game in the third quarter. The Seahawks led 56-42 going into the final 10 minutes. 

• St. Mary's went on a 11 point run, which spanned the first six minutes of the fourth quarter, to really put the game out of reach for Pitt-Bradford. Stephanie Howell and Karon Williams really stepped up over that stretch, contributing eight points combined over the run. The Panthers started to find their stride again in the final minutes, but it was far too late. The Seahawks held on to win 71-51.

Inside the Box Score

• Karon Williams had a game high 23 points, while also picking up seven boards and dishing out four assists.

• Samantha Blaylock chipped in 18 points, including four three pointers.
