Schwenk, Shively Set Records on Final Day of Yellow Jacket Invitational

RICHMOND, Va. – Sophomore Luke Schwenk (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and first-year Robert Shively (Potomac, Md./Walt Whitman) set two records Sunday (Dec. 4) as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team wrapped up action at the Arena Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Randolph-Macon College.
 
Schwenk picked up his fourth school record and second NCAA provisional qualifying team of the weekend while Shively broke an 11-year record in the 200 butterfly. St. Mary's College finished the weekend fifth in the eight-team field with 773.5 points while Washington College captured the Invitational with 1565 points.
 
How It Happened
  • Shively won the 200 butterfly with a school record time of 1:54.24, shattering the old mark of 1:56.06 set by Jackson Webb '11 on February 1, 2011.
  • As the leadoff swimmer on the fourth-place 400 freestyle relay, Schwenk posted a school record and NCAA B-cut of 44.98. Schwenk's split broke the previous mark of 46.56 set by Colin Cassady '19 on February 1, 2019.
  • The foursome of Schwenk, senior captain Jack Kennedy (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area), first-year William Kendrick (Laurel, Md./DeMatha Catholic), and senior captain Sebastian Ludwig (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) finished fourth in the 400-freestyle relay in 3:14.18.
  • Ludwig notched a seventh-place finish in the 1,650 freestyle in 17:42.35 to lead the Seahawks.
  • St. Mary's earned a seventh-place finish in the 800 freestyle in 7:27.83 behind the efforts of Ludwig, Shively, senior captain Anri Cifuentes Robinson (Easton, Md./Easton), and Kennedy.
  • Kennedy led three top-16 finishes in the 100 freestyle as he placed ninth in 49.45 followed by Kendrick in 15th in 50.82 and Cifuentes Robinson in 16th in 51.23.
  • Junior Sam Shenot (Upper Marlboro, Md./Leonardtown) tallied an 11th-place finish in the 200 butterfly in 2:05.39.
  • First-year Louie Saucedo (Gaithersburg, Md./Clarksburg) rounded out the action for the Seahawks with a 19th-place finish in the 200 breaststroke in 2:46.49.
