Box Score St. Mary's City, MD. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Soccer Team (6-6-3) took on the Penn State Berks Nittany Lions (7-8-1) in a pivotal United East Conference Matchup. The Seahawks were able to come out on top on senior day, taking down the Nittany Lions 1-0.Â
The Seahawks honored seniors: Lily Mellendick, Flor Katz-Starr, Mary Quinn, Hannah Spinks, Diana Clay, and Gi Castle-Smith for their four years of dedication to St. Mary's College of Maryland Women's Soccer.Â

The Seahawks and Nittany Lions statistically played an incredibly even first 45 minutes of soccer, but it was St. Mary's who found themselves ahead on the scoreboard.Â

It was Ella Raines who found the back of the net for St. Mary's with a little over 10 minutes left in the first half. Raines was a recipient of a short cross that was lobbed in by Cicely Clark. Raines was able to control the and make a quick move to spin around her defender and deliver a strike to the bottom left hand corner to give the Seahawks the lead at the break.Â

Kylie Wells made two first half saves compared to none by the Nittany Lions goalkeeper.Â

St. Mary's captured the momentum early on in the second half and took the first five shots of the period. The Seahawks were able to put two of the five shots on goal.Â

A pivotal moment in terms of the momentum came when a free kick from Ashlyn Bonner found the back of the net over the outstretched arm of the Nittany Lions goalkeeper. For a brief moment, the Seahawks thought they had captured a 2-0 lead with about 20 minutes left in the game, but saw the refs call it back.Â

Penn State Berks was able to generate several opportunities to score in the final 10 minutes. The most dangerous coming in the 82nd minute on a header from point blank range. Kylie Wells made the biggest save of the day and kept the Nittany Lions off the scoreboard.

The Seahawk defense was able to keep Penn State Berks off the board in the second half and would hold on to win, 1-0.
