2/11/2023 11:48:00 PM

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Sophomore Luke Schwenk (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) was a part of all three records Saturday (Feb. 11) as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swim team continued action at the 2023 Atlantic East Conference Swimming Championships. St. Mary's College also notched 12 podium appearances. This is the second straight year that the Aquatics Center at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center on the St. Mary's campus is serving as the host site.

The Seahawks stayed in second in the team standings after today's competition with 412 points while Marymount (Va.) University leads the six-team field with 502 points. Cabrini University, the four-time defending champion, rounds out the top-three with 358 points.

How It Happened
  • Sophomore Luke Schwenk (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) tallied a championship meet record in winning the 100 butterfly with a record-setting time of 49.54.

  • Schwenk reset the 100-butterfly championship meet record twice in one day as he surpassed the previous mark of 50.54 set by Cabrini's Tre Fissella on April 24, 2021, in the morning's preliminaries and qualified for the finals with a 49.88.

  • The Seahawks notched a school record in the 200-medley relay behind the efforts of Schwenk, senior captain Anri Cifuentes Robinson (Easton, Md./Easton), first-year Robert Shively (Potomac, Md./Walt Whitman), and senior captain Jack Kennedy (Northampton, Pa./Northampton Area).

  • The foursome finished second in the 200-medley relay in 1:36.07, which dropped 0.60 seconds off the 10-year-old record of 1:36.67 set at 2013 Capital Athletic Conference Championships.

  • Shively picked up a second silver medal in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:14.95 while senior captain Sebastian Ludwig (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) finished fourth in 4:21.52 and first-year Carter Boone (Phoenix, Md./Loyola Blakefield) came in fifth in 4:54.79.

  • First-year Jair Jackson (Laurel, Md./Chapelgate Christian) posted a second-place finish in the 100 breaststroke in 59.85 while Cifuentes-Robinson contributed a fourth-place finish in 1:00.38. Sophomore Sam Meisel (Chevy Chase, Md./Walter Johnson) took seventh in 1:11.35.
