Senior captain
Charlie Anderson (Annapolis, Md./Key) picked up his highest career finish at the Carl van Duyne Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) Men's Singlehanded Conference Championships this past weekend (Sept. 28-29) while the rest of the St. Mary's College of Maryland sailing team competed at the Danmark Trophy at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy and the Women's Atlantic Coast Conference Round 1 at Connecticut College.
CARL VAN DUYNE
Both Anderson and sophomore
Mats Braaten (Toronto, Ontario/Humberside) represented St. Mary's College at the men's singlehanded conference championships. Both finished in the Top 10 as Anderson came in fourth and Braaten placed seventh.
Anderson found himself atop of the leaderboard following Saturday's seven races as he won Race 2, came in second in the final race of the day (Race 7), and took third in Races 3 and 5. Anderson tallied 28 points on Saturday, holding a two-point lead over Georgetown University's
Peter Barnard '27. Braaten secured a Top 10 spot with an eighth-place finish on Saturday, collecting 61 points with a pair of seconds in Races 2 and 3.
Sunday saw a northeast breeze at 8-12 knots and tight racing. Anderson came in fifth in Races 9 and 10 and finished the weekend with 91 points for fourth place. Braaten put up three fourth-place finishes in Races 8, 11, and 13, helping himself to a one-spot higher finish than Saturday as he took seventh with 110 points.
Barnard notched three first-place finishes and three second-place finishes over the final seven races to take the lead and win the conference title.
DANMARK TROPHY
The Seahawks finished 11th with 160 points in the 20-team field at the Danmark Trophy hosted by the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Eight races were completed on Saturday while no sailing occurred Sunday as the breeze never filled in long enough for the sailors to leave the dock. Harvard University took top honors with 90 points.

Owen Hennessey (Washington, D.C./Severn) and senior captain
Zoe Hoctor (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) came in fifth among the Division A boats with 66 points. Hennessey and Hoctor notched a second-place finish in Race 5A while coming in fourth in Races 4A and 6A.
In Division B, sophomore skipper
Landon Cormie (Vineyard Haven, Mass./Falmouth) and junior captain
Emily Shioutakon (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) finished 13th with 94 points. The duo took third in Race 2B as well as fifth in Races 5B and 6B.
WOMEN'S ACC ROUND 1
SMCM placed 13th at the 18-team Women's ACC Round 1 hosted by Connecticut College. The Seahawks notched 249 points while Stanford claimed the team title with 81 points.
Sophomore skipper
Lina Carper (Carlsbad, Calif./Coronado) along with senior crew
Lillian Newman (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and
Indiana Theurer (Virginia Beach, Va./Homeschool) notched a ninth-place finish in Division B with 99 points. Carper and Newman finished fourth in Race 4B while Newman and Theurer came in third in Race 11B.
Junior skipper
Cho-Cho Williams (Norfolk, Va./Granby) and graduate crew
Rachel O'Neill (Gambrills, Md./South River) recorded a 15th-place finish in Division A with 150 points. The tandem's best finish was fifth place in Race 6A.
