HAMPTON, Va. – Sophomore
Daniel Madigan (Waldorf, Md./North Point) broke the school record in the 200-breaststroke as St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swimming finished action Sunday (Nov. 24) at the annual Yellow Jacket Invitational hosted by Randolph-Macon College at the Hampton, Virginia Aquaplex. St. Mary's College amassed 541 points for fifth in the seven-team field.
Madigan broke the 11-year-old 200-breaststroke during the morning preliminaries with a 2:07.93, qualifying for the evening's championship final and surpassing the previous record of 2:08.10 set by
Billy DeBoissiere '13 on Feb. 17, 2013.
Madigan finished sixth in the 200-breaststroke in 2:08.85, leading a quartet of Seahawks in the event. Sophomore
Luca Fairbank (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) placed 13th in 2:15.84 while senior
Sam Meisel (Chevy Chase, Md./Walter Johnson) took 21st in 2:32.73. Rounding out the SMCM contingent was sophomore
Nick Suwito (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg) in 23rd place in 2:44.35.
Senior captain
Luke Schwenk (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) captured the 100-freestyle in 44.57 while sophomore
Anthony Davis (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) came in 17th in 47.87 and junior captain
William Kendrick (Laurel, Md./DeMatha Catholic) placed 23rd in 49.55.
First-year
Harrison Greenwald (Reisterstown, Md.) had the best finish for the Seahawks in the 1650-freestyle, coming in fifth in 16:29.54, while first-year
Stephen Lepine (Rockville, Md.) placed 16th in 17:29.51 and Suwito took 23rd in 21:12.39.
The foursome of Greenwald, sophomore
Kyle Smith (Crofton, Md./Crofton), Kendrick, and Davis placed seventh in the 400-freestyle relay in 3:14.73.
Sophomore
Thomas Brown (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg) led St. Mary's College in the 200-butterfly with a 21st-place finish in 2:26.95.
