Seahawks Women’s Swimming Tied for First on Day 1 of Atlantic East Championships

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team picked up two pieces of hardware on the first day of the 2024 Atlantic East Conference Women's Swimming Championships Thursday night (Feb. 15). St. Mary's College collected a gold and a silver while posting the conference and championship meet record in the 800-freestyle relay and 200 freestyle.
 
The championships are being hosted at the Aquatics Center in the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center on the campus of St. Mary's College for the third straight year. Cabrini University, Cedar Crest College, Gallaudet University, Immaculata University, Marymount (Va.) University, and Marywood University, along with the Seahawks, are all challenging for the championship crown.
 
SMCM and Marymount, the defending conference champion, finished the night tied for first with 74 points each while Marywood rounded out the top-three with 64 points for third place.

How It Happened
 
200 Medley Relay
  • The Seahawks finished second in the first event of the night with a time of 1:50.55. Swimming on the relay were senior captains Marissa Fields (Clements, Md./Chopticon) and Anna Kidd (Arbutus, Md./Mount de Sales), first-year Kelsie Miller (Potomac, Md./Churchill), and sophomore Venus Kai Judge (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard).
 
800 Freestyle Relay
  • Miller, Judge, senior Lilianna Bowman (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill), and Kidd clocked a conference and championship meet record of 8:03.59 in the 800-freestyle relay to claim the gold medal. The quartet bested the second-place Marymount foursome by 12.25 seconds.
  • St. Mary's College shattered the previous conference and championship meet record of 8:15.32 set by Marymount five years ago (Feb. 16, 2019).
  • Additionally, Miller registered an individual conference and championship meet record with her 200-freestyle split of 1:55.02, breaking the previous mark of 1:57.06 set by Kidd on Feb. 12, 2022.
