SMCM Women’s Swimming Sweeps Major Awards, Finishes as Atlantic East Runners-Up

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – First-year Kelsie Miller (Potomac, Md./Churchill) won both the Atlantic East Conference Women's Swimmer and Women's Rookie of the Year awards as the 2024 Atlantic East Women's Swimming Championships concluded Sunday night (Feb. 18).
 
The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's swim team finished the four-night, three-day event as the Atlantic East Runners-Up for the second consecutive season, tallying 701 points. Additionally, eighth-year Head Coach Casey Brandt and his coaching staff named the Atlantic East Women's Coaching Staff of the Year.
 
In her first conference championship meet, Miller claimed gold medals in the 200 individual medley and 100 butterfly and as a member of the winning 800 freestyle relay and the 200-freestyle relay. She also gained a silver medal as a member of the second-place 200 medley relay. Miller registered six championship meet records, six conference marks, one school record, and one NCAA B cut in the 100 butterfly.

How It Happened
  • Senior captain Anna Kidd (Arbutus, Md./Mount de Sales) wrapped up her Seahawk career as the four-time defending 100 freestyle champion, gaining top honors with a 53.67.
 
  • Miller captured the 200 butterfly in 2:07.98 after breaking the conference and championship meet record during preliminaries. In the morning, she swam a 2:06.89 to surpass her own previous conference mark of 2:09.66 from December 3 and shattered the championship meet record of 2:21.08 set by Cabrini's Katherine Buckman in 2019.
 
  • The foursome of Kidd, seniors Marissa Fields (Clements, Md./Chopticon) and Lilianna Bowman (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill), and Miller earned gold in the 400-freestyle relay with a conference and championship meet record of 3:39.45. St. Mary's College broke the previous mark of 3:41.54 set by SMCM in 2022.
 
  • Bowman was the top finisher for SMCM in the 200 backstroke as she placed fourth in 2:17.97 while first-year Kaitlyn Soldon (Warrenton, Va./Kettle Run) also landed on the podium with a sixth-place finish in 2:27.15.
 
  • Sophomore Venus Kai Judge (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) picked up a fourth-place finish in the 100 freestyle in 55.60 while Fields finished fifth in 58.28 and senior Katie Stolzenberger (Island Heights, N.J./Allentown) came in eighth in 1:01.96.
 
  • The Seahawks grabbed fifth-eighth in the 200 breaststroke as senior Julia Milner (Middletown, Md./Middletown) led the way with a fifth-place finish in 2:45.91. Sophomore Bella Ramirez (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) took sixth in 2:46.58 followed by senior Kate Holland (Rockville, Md./Rockville) in seventh in 2:46.70 and sophomore Kate Pass (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) in eighth in 2:47.31.
 
  • Junior Emelina Grimm (Rockville, Md./Magruder) paced the team in the 1650 freestyle with a 10th-place finish in 21:30.06.
