Seahawks Men’s Outdoor Track & Field Team Begins 2024 in South Carolina

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's outdoor track & field team began the 2024 season down south at the three-day Alan Connie Shamrock Invitational (Mar. 14-16) in Myrtle Beach, S.C. St. Mary's College collected five school records while four Seahawks qualified for the All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference (AARTFC) Outdoor Championships in May.
 
First-year Ty Tindal (Philadelphia, Pa./Martin Saints Classical) qualified for the AARTFCs in both the 100m dash and 110m hurdles while first-year Collin Fitzgerald (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) also qualified in the 100m dash. The foursome of Fitzgerald, Tindal, first-year Mason Layne (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key), and junior Zane Obi (Germantown, Md./Quince Orchard) qualified in the 4x100m relay.

Thursday, March 14
Hammer Throw
  • First-year Doel Nkalo (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) placed 49th with a personal record of 26.65m.
 
Friday, March 15
One-Mile Run
  • First-year Isaiah Ferebee (Upper Marlboro, Md.) led the Seahawks with a 24th-place finish in 5:05.93 while junior captain Nate Norris (Owings, Md./Northern) came in 27th in 5:09.05.
  • First-year Noah Fisher (Union Bridge, Md./Francis Scott Key) clocked a personal record of 5:18.41 for 29th.
 
110m Hurdles
  • Tindal captured the preliminaries with a school and personal record of 15.60, qualifying for the semifinals.
  • First-year Aaron Morales (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) placed 17th in 19.19.
 
400m Dash
  • Senior captain Emmanuel Douge (Frederick, Md./Oakdale) paced SMCM with a 15th-place finish with a personal record of 53.01.
  • Obi came in 27th in 54.10 while first-year Jake Robey (Kensington, Md./Georgetown Prep) ran a personal record of 54.38 for 29th.
  • First-year Markell Blake (Philadelphia, Pa./Martin Saints Classical) clocked a personal-best time of 56.28 while sophomore Ivan Obuekwe (Frederick, Md./Saint Maria Goretti) also notched a personal record, notching a 53rd-place finish in 1:00.72.
 
100m Dash
  • Tindal claimed fourth in the preliminaries with a school and personal record of 10.81 to advance to the semifinals.
  • Fitzgerald posted a personal record of 10.97 to come in 14th while Layne ran a personal record of 11.43 for 50th.
  • Sophomore Jaedon Aso (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills) tallied a personal-best time of 12.06 for 72nd place while first-year Bryson Brown (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) came in 77th with a personal record of 12.38.
 
800m Run
  • Robey collected a fourth-place finish with a personal record of 2:06.76 while Norris finished seventh in 2:08.77.
  • Ferebee took 10th with a personal-best time of 2:13.22 while Obi posted a personal record of 2:17.13 for 19th.
  • First-year Bryce Webster (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) came in 20th with a personal-best time of 2:19.63.
 
4x800m Relay
  • The foursome of Robey, Ferebee, Obi, and Norris clocked a 9:09.29 for sixth place.
 
4x200m Relay
  • Brown, Morales, Obuekwe, and Aso posted a time of 1:41.71 for 22nd.
 
Javelin Throw
  • Sophomore captain Zack Kralec (Monkton, Md./Hereford) set a school record with a personal-best throw of 36.27m for 34th.
 
Saturday, March 16
3000m Run
  • Webster set the school record with a personal-best time of 10:29.78 for 34th place while Fisher came in 36th place in 10:38.50.
 
4x100m Relay
  • Fitzgerald, Tindal, Layne, and Obi ran a school record of 42.97 to take 10th.
 
400m Hurdles
  • Morales clocked a personal-best time of 1:03.55 to finish 23rd while Blake came in 27th with a personal record of 1:05.09.
 
200m Dash
  • Tindal notched a school record with his time of 22.19 for a 21st-place finish.
  • Layne posted a personal-best time of 23.32 for 67th while Brown came in 98th with a personal record of 25.14.
 
4x400m Relay
  • Obi, Robey, Ferebee, and Norris ran a 3:37.92 for 16th place.
 
Pole Vault
  • Kralec won the event with a height of 3.96m.
 
Shot Put
  • Nkalo placed 54th with a throw of 8.23m.
