GREENSBORO, N.C. – Junior
Luke Schwenk (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) began his second trip to the NCAA Division III Men's Swimming & Diving Championships Wednesday (Mar. 20) with competition in the 50 freestyle.
Schwenk started the day with a solid swim in the morning preliminaries of the 50 freestyle, coming in second in his heat and tying for fifth overall in the 47-person field with a time of 20.23. His fifth-place finish secured the 6-2 team captain a spot in the evening's championship final.
He ended up collecting his third career All-America award when he placed fifth with a school record as well as an Atlantic East Conference record of 19.83 for First Team All-America honors. Last season, Schwenk finished 14th in the 50 freestyle for a Second Team All-America accolade.
Schwenk entered the 50-freestyle event with the fourth-fastest seed time – an NCAA B cut of 19.86.
He will be back in the pool on Friday (Mar. 22), competing in the 100 backstroke. Schwenk comes in tied for the 17th fastest time in Division III, a B standard of 48.61.
