The St. Mary's College of Maryland open sailing team came in second at the Truxtun Umsted hosted by Maritime College (April 13-14) while the Seahawk women's sailing squad finished seventh at the Mid-Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) Women's Team Race Conference Championship hosted by St. Mary's College.
TRUXTUN UMSTED
The Seahawks notched 105 points to take second in the 14-team field, finishing 20 points behind Fordham University, the Truxtun Umsted champion.
No competition took place Saturday due to unsafe conditions. Each fleet completed 10 races on Sunday.
In Division A, junior skipper
Charlie Anderson (Annapolis, Md./Key) and senior crew
Katherine Shermock (Columbia, Md./Long Reach) finished fourth with 52 points as the duo collected seven Top-5 finishes, including winning Races 6A and 7A.
First-year skipper
Nathan Jensen (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury Regional) and junior crew
Brooke Bertrand (Costa Mesa, Calif.) placed third in Division B with 53 points. Jensen and Bertrand compiled five Top-3 finishes, including second-place finishes in Races 7B-9B.
MAISA WOMEN'S TEAM RACE CHAMPIONSHIP
SMCM registered a seventh-place finish in the eight-team field with a 6-8 record. No. 5 Cornell University captured the conference championship as well as the automatic bid to the College Sailing Women's Team Race National Championship for the second straight season. The Big Red posted a 10-4 record, besting No. 6 University of Pennsylvania in the sail-off (1-2-5) for the title.
St. Mary's College registered a 3-4 record in each of the two rounds. In Round 1, the Seahawks defeated UPenn, 2-3-4, No. 16 Old Dominion University, 1-4-5, and Fordham, 1-2-5. In the second round, SMCM collected wins over ODU (1-2-5), Hobart & William Smith Colleges (1-2-5), and Fordham (1-2-6).

Lily Flack (Stonington, Conn./Marine Science Magnet) as well as sophomore
Cho-Cho Williams (Norfolk, Va./Granby). Handling crew duties were senior
Rachel O'Neill (Gambrills, Md./South River), sophomore
Emily Shioutakon (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel), and first-years
Mary Govan (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) and
Grace Phillips (Stevensville, Md./Gunston).
