ERIE, Pa. – First-year
Ty Tindal (Philadelphia, Pa./Martin Saints Classical) collected his second United East Conference Men's Rookie of the Year award Sunday (May 5) as the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's outdoor track & field team finished fourth at the inaugural United East Conference Men's Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
St. Mary's College tallied 74 points to finish fourth in the nine-team field. The Seahawks recorded 17 personal-bests as well as four program marks.
Tindal picked up his second United East Rookie of the Year award after medaling in four events, including winning the long jump with a personal-best and school record distance.
Additionally, senior
Quentin Pastore (Towson, Md./Towson) grabbed his second Elite 20 Award of his career.
How It Happened
- Tindal claimed first place in the long jump with a personal record and school record of 6.52m, breaking his own record of 6.39m set on March 30. He then came in second in the 100m dash in 10.93 before taking second in the 200m dash in 22.09. Tindal also notched a ninth-place finish in the high jump with a height of 1.69m.
- Sophomore captain Kelly Byrne (Rockville, Md./Rockville) earned a silver medal in the 10,000m run with a personal-best and school record time of 35:42.04, surpassing his own mark of 35:45.24 clocked on April 20. Byrne tallied the Seahawks' highest finish in the 1500m run, taking fifth in 17:35.34.
- Sophomore captain Zack Kralec (Monkton, Md./Hereford) posted a second-place finish in the javelin throw with a personal record and school record of 48.14m, displacing his own record of 44.67m from March 30. Kralec also went 14th in the discus throw with a personal-best throw of 32.96m.
- The foursome of sophomore Jaedon Aso (Lexington Park, Md./Great Mills), Tindal, first-year Mason Layne (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key), and junior Zane Obi (Germantown, Md./Quince Orchard) clocked a 43.81 for third place in the 4x100m relay.
- Layne, junior captain Nate Norris (Owings, Md./Northern), Obi, and first-year Jake Robey (Kensington, Md./Georgetown Prep) came in fourth in the 4x400m relay in 3:36.34.
- Layne notched SMCM's best finish in the 400m dash as he placed fifth with a personal record of 51.99. He also clocked a personal-best time of 23.19 in the preliminaries of the 200m dash for ninth.
- First-year Aaron Morales (Smithsburg, Md./Smithsburg) took sixth in the 110m hurdles with a personal-best time of 18.31 while coming in seventh in the 400m hurdles in 1:02.62.
- Robey notched a sixth-place finish in the 800m run in 2:04.93 after claiming a ninth-place finish in the javelin throw with a personal-best throw of 39.64m.
- First-year Bryson Brown (Waldorf, Md./Thomas Stone) tied his own school record in the triple jump with 11.52m for seventh place.
- Norris added a seventh-place finish in the 800m with a personal-best time of 2:05.76.
- First-year Noah Fisher (Union Bridge, Md./Francis Scott Key) collected an eighth-place finish in the 3000m steeplechase with a personal record of 11:40.71 while posting a personal record of 4:48.01 in the 1500m for 17th place.
- Pastore picked up a ninth-place finish in the 1500m in 4:20.97.
- First-year Doel Nkalo (Montgomery Village, Md./Watkins Mill) tallied a 13th-place finish in the hammer throw with 26.27m while placing 23rd in the shot put with a personal record of 8.58m.
- First-year Bryce Webster (Saint Leonard, Md./Calvert) picked up a 14th-place finish in the 800m run with a personal record of 2:18.15. Webster added another personal-best time in the 1500m with 4:39.47 for 15th.
- Sophomore Ivan Obuekwe (Frederick, Md./Goretti) notched a personal record of 30.90m in the javelin throw for a 19th-place finish.
