Seahawks Sailing Finishes Fourth at MAISA Top 9 Open

ITHACA, N.Y. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland sailing teams competed at the Middle Atlantic Intercollegiate Sailing Association (MAISA) Top 9 Open and Women's regattas this past weekend (Sept. 21-22) at Cornell University, taking fourth and seventh, respectively.
 
MAISA TOP 9 OPEN
St. Mary's College placed fourth in the nine-team field with a score of 294. Georgetown University claimed the team title with a score of 174.
 
Senior skipper Owen Hennessey (Washington, D.C./Severn) and senior captain Zoe Hoctor (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) came in third among the Division A boats and sixth overall with 128 points. Hennessey and Hoctor notched seven Top 5 finishes in 16 races, including winning Race 9A and taking second in Races 5A and 16A.
 
In Division B, senior captain Charlie Anderson (Annapolis, Md./Key) along with first-year crew Jane Wright (Wilmington, N.C./John T. Hoggard) and junior captain Emily Shioutakon (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) finished fifth within the division and 11th overall with 166 points. Anderson and Wright competed together in Races 1-6 and Races 11-18, notching four Top 5 finishes and finishing second in Race 12B.
 
MAISA TOP 9 WOMEN'S
The Seahawks took seventh in the nine-team field with 361 points. Georgetown also captured the MAISA Top 9 Women's with a score of 149.
 
Sophomore skipper Lina Carper (Carlsbad, Calif./Coronado) and senior crew Lillian Newman (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) notched a fifth-place finish in Division B and 14th overall with 185 points. The duo registered three Top 5 finishes in 16 races, including a third-place finish in Race 15B.
 
Junior skipper Cho-Cho Williams (Norfolk, Va./Granby) and graduate crew Rachel O'Neill (Gambrills, Md./South River) recorded a ninth-place finish in Division A and 12th overall with 176 points. Williams and O'Neill also claimed three top-five finishes, taking third in Race 2A.
