LONG BEACH, Calif. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland sailing team wrapped up the fall season this past weekend (Jan. 4-5) at the 18-team Rose Bowl hosted by the University of Southern California.
The Seahawks claimed the Rose Bowl by a 19-point margin with a score of 31, besting second-place Boston College (50) and third-place Georgetown University (53) for the regatta title.
Senior skipper
Owen Hennessey (Washington, D.C./Severn) and senior crew
Brooke Bertrand (Costa Mesa, Calif./Corona del Mar) represented SMCM in Division A, finishing second in the 18-team field with 22 points. The duo finished four points behind first-place Georgetown (18) and four points ahead of third-place Tulane University (26).
Hennessey and Bertrand captured Race 6A while taking second in Races 1A and 4A.
Senior captains
Charlie Anderson (West River, Md./Key) and
Zoe Hoctor (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) won Division B by a 14-point margin, tallying just nine points as the tandem placed first in three of the six races. Anderson and Hoctor came in second in Races 3B, 4B, and 5B. Boston College (23) finished second while the U.S. Coast Guard Academy placed third with 27 points.
