MEDIA, Pa. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's cross country team successfully defended their United East Conference championship crown for the fifth consecutive season Saturday afternoon (Nov. 1). St. Mary's College took top honors in the eight-team field, edging second-place Lancaster Bible College, 53-58 with three runners in the Top 10.
Since joining the United East in 2021, the Seahawks have won all five women's cross country conference titles.
How It Happened
- Sophomore Ella Mitchell (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr) finished as the United East runner-up as Mitchell completed the 6K course in 24:25.10.
- Senior Kate Wachter (Takoma Park, Md./Montgomery Blair) was the second to score for SMCM as Wachter came in seventh in 26:10.30.
- The third Seahawk to finish was first-year Elle Wilson (Westminster, Md./Westminster) who took 10th in 26:27.44.
- First-year Charlotte Crabtree (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) was the next to score for St. Mary's College as Crabtree went 18th in 28:03.21.
- Rounding out the five scorers for the Seahawks was junior Avery Arizzi (Arnold, Md./Broadneck). Arizzi collected a 19th-place finish as she clocked a season-best 28:10.82.
Inside the Race
- Cairn University's Clarisse Hayden earned her second straight United East Runner of the Year award after crossing the finish line first in 23:58.48.
- The United East Rookie of the Year award went to Penn State Harrisburg's MaKayla Reichel while Lancaster Bible Head Coach Silas Eckroad picked up Coach of the Year honors.
