ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Senior captain
Luke Schwenk (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) picked up his ninth school record in helping St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swimming to a regular-season finale victory Saturday afternoon (Feb. 1). St. Mary's College (10-6) posted a 190-50 non-conference win over Southern Virginia University (1-7) on Senior Day.
Prior to the start of the meet, Schwenk and senior
Sam Meisel (Chevy Chase, Md./Walter Johnson) were recognized for their years of dedication and leadership to the program.
The Seahawks won all 14 events as Schwenk and junior captain
William Kendrick (Laurel, Md./DeMatha Catholic) led the way with four victories each.
Schwenk broke a 12-year-old record in the 100-breaststroke as he touched the wall first in 56.88, knocking off 1.11 seconds from the previous mark of 57.99 set by
Billy DeBoissiere '13 on Feb. 16, 2013. He then captured the 50-freestyle in 20.67 before winning the 100-butterfly in 49.71.
Schwenk also anchored the first-place 200-freestyle relay (1:27.75) alongside Kendrick and sophomores
Kyle Smith (Crofton, Md./Crofton) and
Anthony Davis (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist).
Kendrick led off the victorious 200-medley relay (1:41.82), joining sophomores
Daniel Madigan (Waldorf, Md./North Point) and
Qwada Moses (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic) and Davis in the win.
Kendrick spearheaded a 1-2-3 finish in the 100-backstroke, winning in 57.18, while Smith followed in second in 57.75 and junior
Jair Jackson (Laurel, Md./Chapelgate Christian) took third in 1:03.81. Kendrick also claimed top honors in the 100-freestyle in 51.31 while Moses placed third in 53.17.
First-year
Harrison Greenwald (Reisterstown, Md.) notched three wins for SMCM as Greenwald went first in the 200-freestyle in 1:47.51, won the 200-backstroke in 2:11.11, and touched the wall first in the 500-freestyle in 4:57.48. Smith was second in the 200-backstroke in 2:14.02.
First-year
Stephen Lepine (Rockville, Md.) tallied wins in the 1000-freestyle in 10:45.12 and the 200-butterfly in 2:15.63 while Madigan captured the 200-breaststroke in 2:15.16. Lepine added a second-place finish in the 500-freestyle in 5:18.32 while Madigan went second in the 100-breaststroke in 1:02.55.
Jackson came up with the final individual win of the meet as he took first in the 200-individual medley in 2:19.66 after taking third in the 100-butterfly in 56.43.
