Nine Records Fall as SMCM Men’s Swimming Secured AEC Runner-Up Trophy

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Nine records tumbled Sunday (Feb. 16) on the final day of the 2025 Atlantic East Conference Swimming Championships. St. Mary's College of Maryland men's swimming finished in second place for the third straight season, racking up 825 points behind seven gold medal performances.
 
Senior captain Luke Schwenk (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) collected his third consecutive Atlantic East Swimmer of the Year award while first-year Harrison Greenwald (Reisterstown, Md.) garnered Atlantic East Rookie of the Year honors. Additionally, junior Jair Jackson (Laurel, Md./Chapelgate Christian) picked up the Elite 20 Award.
 
Marymount (Va.) University completed the three-peat with 917 points while 825 points is a career best for the Seahawks since joining the Atlantic East in 2020-21. Rounding out the five-team field were Immaculata University (273), Marywood University (264), and Gallaudet University (227).
 
The 200-backstroke, the 100-freestyle, the 200-breaststroke, the 200-butterfly, the 1650-freestyle, and the 400-freestyle relay were the final events to be crowned along with the team champions.
 
Schwenk earned his third consecutive Atlantic East title in the 100-freestyle with a conference championship meet record, a conference record, a school record, and NCAA B cut of 43.72. He took down his own record of 44.26 from Feb. 18, 2024, with his performance tonight.
 
Sophomore Daniel Madigan (Waldorf, Md./North Point) captured the 200-breaststroke after finishing second as a newcomer last season. Madigan set the school record in the morning preliminary heat with a 2:07.18, bettering his own record of 2:07.93 from Nov. 24, 2024. He then won the championship final in 2:05.60 to break the championship meet and conference record of 2:06.43 set by Cabrini University' Tre Fissella on Apr. 24, 2021, and reset his own school record from earlier in the morning.
 
Greenwald notched SMCM's third gold medal of the night with a meet record of 16:29.79 in the 1650-freestyle.
 
Sophomores Anthony Davis (Upper Marlboro, Md./Riverdale Baptist) and Kyle Smith (Crofton, Md./Crofton), junior captain William Kendrick (Laurel, Md./DeMatha Catholic), and Schwenk clocked a school record of 3:08.92 for second place in the 400-freestyle relay. St. Mary's College just missed a gold medal by 0.79 seconds. The foursome knocked off the previous mark of 3:09.78 from Feb. 21, 2016.
 
First-year Stephen Lepine (Rockville, Md.) claimed a bronze medal in the 1650-freestyle in 17:39.42 while sophomore Nick Suwito (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg) took seventh in 21:31.19.
 
Smith paced the Seahawks in the 200-backstroke with a fourth-place finish in 2:07.64 while sophomore CB Jurado (Odenton, Md./Arundel) placed seventh in 2:18.33 and fellow classmate Jake Williams (Port Republic, Md./Calvert) came in eighth in 2:38.50.

Jackson notched the team's highest finish in the 200-butterfly as he touched the wall in 2:05.52 for fourth place while junior Tony Lumezi (Towson, Md./Towson) finished sixth in 2:17.42 and sophomore Thomas Brown (Clarksburg, Md./Clarksburg) posted a 2:35.13 for eighth.
 
Davis reached the podium in the 100-freestyle with a fifth-place finish in 48.65 while Kendrick finished on Davis' heels in 48.72 for sixth. Sophomore Qwada Moses (Bowie, Md./DeMatha Catholic) earned a spot on the podium as well with a seventh-place finish in 50.40.
 
Sophomore Luca Fairbank (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) earned a fifth-place finish in the 200-breaststroke in 2:17.21 while senior Sam Meisel (Chevy Chase, Md./Walter Johnson) joined Madigan and Fairbank on the podium with his eighth-place finish in 2:27.68. Suwito captured the consolation final in 2:42.85 for ninth overall.
