ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland sailing team brought home the Georgetown University Team Race title while notching third- and fourth-place finishes at the Navy Team Race Invitational this past weekend (Mar. 1-2).
GEORGETOWN TEAM RACE
The Seahawks posted a 5-1 record, tying for first place with host Georgetown. However, SMCM claimed the team title after winning the sail-off against Georgetown, 1-3-4.
In Round 1, St. Mary's College notched a 2-1 record following defeats of Cornell University, 1-2-5, and Fordham University, 1-2-3. Its only loss was to Georgetown, 3-4-6.
The second round saw the Seahawks post a perfect 3-0 mark with wins over Georgetown, 2-3-4, and Cornell, 1-2-5, while posting another perfect 1-2-3 finish against Fordham.
The three duos competing this weekend at Georgetown were senior captain
Charlie Anderson (West River, Md./Key) and first-year crew
Jane Wright (Wilmington, N.C./Hoggard); sophomore skipper
Landon Cormie (Vineyard Haven, Mass./Falmouth) and junior crew
Raam Fox (Annapolis, Md./Severn); and senior skipper
Owen Hennessey (Washington, D.C./Severn) and senior captain
Zoe Hoctor (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's).
NAVY TEAM RACE INVITATIONAL
Seahawks 2 and Seahawks 1 both posted a 6-6 record to tie for third place, but Seahawks 2 took third with a 2-1 record against Seahawks 1. Seahawks 1 settled fourth place in the five-team field.
Seahawks 2 went 2-2 in Round 1 before notching a 3-1 mark in Round 2 with their only setback coming against Navy (4-5-6). Seahawks 2 tallied just one win in Round 3, going 1-3 with a 1-2-4 victory over Hobart & William Smith Colleges.
Seahawks 1 had a rough start with a 1-3 record in Round 1, defeating Georgetown, 1-3-6. They rebounded with a 2-2 mark in Round 2 before closing out the weekend with a 3-1 log in Round 3, falling only to Georgetown, 3-4-6.

Cho-Cho Williams (Norfolk, Va./Granby), and first-year
Joe Marynowski (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) while the crew were seniors
Lillian Newman (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) and
Indiana Theurer (Virginia Beach, Va./Homeschool), sophomore
Mary Govan (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle), and first-year
Walker Brescia (Oak Bluffs, Mass./Martha's Vineyard Regional).
Seniors
Henry Haddon (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) and
Max Kleha (Huntington, Calif./Mater Dei) and sophomore skipper
Nathan Jensen (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) were the skippers for Seahawks 1 while junior
Gina Bonazelli (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair), sophomore
Grace-Anne Phillips (Stevensville, Md./Gunston), and first-years
Scott Opert (Galesville, Md./Southern) and
Emery Strockbine (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) served as the crew.
