LATHAM, N.Y. – Jacob Nelson (Olney, Md./Sherwood) picked up the United East Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week award as announced by the conference office Tuesday morning (Mar. 4). This is Nelson's first player of the week award as a Seahawk.
The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's tennis team split their first two matches of 2025 as St. Mary's College dropped a 5-2 decision at York College of Pennsylvania before rebounding with a 5-2 victory at Marymount (Va.) University (Mar. 1). The 6-0 first year posted a 3-1 record between the matches.
Nelson partnered with
Nick Rohr '25 for a 6-3 loss at No. 1 doubles against York's
Parker Sanders and
Evan Stehman. He then rallied for a 3-6, 6-0, 6-4 triumph over
Ben Dorsey at No. 2 singles.
Nelson and Rohr notched a 6-1 victory over Marymount's
Eshan Degamwar and
Emilio Escamilla. He finished off the week with another comeback win, 6-7 (5), 6-0, 6-3 over
Gunek Singh at No. 3 singles.
The Seahawks (2-3) will return to action Sunday, March 9, when SMCM takes on University of Lynchburg (3-0) at the PTR Spring Tennis Fest down in Hilton Head Island, S.C. The match begins at 12:30 pm and will be played at the Hilton Head Beach & Tennis Resort.
