ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland sailing teams traveled to the U.S. Naval Academy (Annapolis, Md.) for the Truxtun Umsted while hosting the Owen Trophy this past weekend (April 12-13).
TRUXTUN UMSTED
St. Mary's College finished fourth in the 17-team field with 181 points. Host Navy captured the Truxtun Umsted by a 40-point margin over the Seahawks, notching 141 points. University of Miami placed second with 161 points with Tulane University came in third with 174 points. A total of 14 races were sailed in each division.
The duo of sophomore skipper
Nathan Jensen (Sudbury, Mass./Lincoln-Sudbury) and senior crew
Brooke Bertrand (Costa Mesa, Calif./Corona Del Mar) claimed top honors in Division A, besting second-place Miami by 15 points with a 69-84 margin. Jensen and Bertrand collected seven top-three finishes, including winning Races 1A, 9A, and 11A.
In Division B, juniors
Raam Fox (Annapolis, Md./Severn) and
Emily Shioutakon (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) took seventh with 112 points. The tandem notched five top-three placements, including going second in Races 12B and 14B.
OWEN TROPHY
The Seahawks' open team placed fifth in the nine-team field with 288 points while SMCM's women's team came in sixth with 365 points. Georgetown University won the Owen Trophy with 143 points while University of Pennsylvania took second with 179 points and Navy finished third with 253 points. Eighteen races were sailed in each division.

Henry Haddon '25 (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) and
Mats Braaten '27 (Toronto, Ont./Humberside) and crew
Siena Adduci '27 (Sherborn, Mass./Tabor) and
Mary Govan '27 (Charlottesville, Va./Albemarle) represented the open team in Division A, finishing third with 137 points and winning Race 18A.
Junior skipper
Cho-Cho Williams (Norfolk, Va./Granby) and crew
Indiana Theurer '25 (Virginia Beach, Va./Homeschool) and
Maya Brichacek '26 (Rockville, Md./Rockville) were the women's team representatives in Division A, taking fifth among the Division A boats with 196 points, notching three fifth-place finishes.
First-year skippers
Joe Marynowski (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius) and
Scott Opert (Galesville, Md./Southern) and crew
Emery Strockbine '28 (Catonsville, Md./Catonsville) and
Brooke Hayward '27 (Stevensville, Md./Kent Island) went fifth among the Division B boats with 151 points, taking second in Races 3B and 9B.

Lina Carper (Carlsbad, Calif./Coronado) and crew
Lillian Newman '25 (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck),
Gina Bonazelli '26 (Silver Spring, Md./Montgomery Blair), and
Grace-Anne Phillips '27 (Stevensville, Md./Gunston) were seventh with 169 points, taking second in Race 13B.
