GREENSBORO, N.C. – Seniors
George Berbakos (Sykesville, Md./Century) and
Cole Tarleton (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) represented the St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team on both the
American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA)/Rawlings NCAA Division III and
D3baseball.com All-Region Teams announced May 27.
Tarleton landed on D3baseball.com All-Region 4 First Team while earning a spot on ABCA/Rawlings All-Region 4 Second Team. Berbakos garnered Third Team honors from both ABCA/Rawlings and D3baseball.com.
With Berbakos and Tarleton's selections, the Seahawks baseball program has collected seven all-region awards as
Trevor Smith '25 landed on the ABCA All-Region 4 Second Team last season,
Sam Beatty '14 was named to the 2014 ABCA All-South Region Third Team, and
Steve Oursler was the first SMCM baseball player to earn all-region honors in 1999.
Tarleton wraps up his career as a three-time all-region pick after notching D3baseball.com All-Region 4 Third Team honors in 2022. For Berbakos, these are his first all-region honors.
The 2025 United East Conference Player of the Year, Tarleton is the first player in program history to ever gain four all-conference awards as he picked up Second Team honors in 2022 and 2023 while garnering First Team accolades in 2024 and 2025.
Tarleton finished as the league leader with team-bests of a .444 batting average, a .838 slugging percentage, and a 1.412 OPS (on-base + slugging percentage) while ranking second with a team-high .574 on-base percentage. The 6-2 outfielder also tied for first in the conference with a 1.000 fielding percentage on 59 putouts and two assists in 61 chances while tying for second with five triples, tying for ninth with 43 RBI, and tying for 10th with six home runs.
Among Division III players, Tarleton ranked third in on-base percentage, ninth in slugging percentage, 11th in batting average, 15th with 1.48 RBI per game, and 22nd with 0.97 walks per game. He also tied for 12th with 0.17 triples per game and tied for 27th in triples.
Tarleton was twice named the United East Player of the Week this season and gained a spot on the D3baseball.com Team of the Week (April 30). He led the team with 13 multi-hit games and 12 multi-RBI games while stringing together a 19-game hit streak between March 12 and May 2. Tarleton also ended his senior campaign with a reached base streak of 29 straight games.
Tarleton finished his career with a .400 batting average on 162 hits in 405 at-bats, connecting on 38 doubles, 17 home runs, and 12 triples in 114 career games. He also notched 115 RBI, scored 106 runs, and stole 17 bases.
Berbakos picked up First Team All-United East honors this season as well. The 6-2 second baseman tied for second in the United East with five triples while tying for fourth by turning 24 double plays. He led the Seahawks with 36 runs scored while sharing the team lead with 11 doubles. Berbakos ranked second for SMCM with a .364 batting average, 43 hits, and eight stolen bases while sitting third with 25 RBI.
In Division III, Berbakos also tied for 12th with 0.17 triples per game and tied for 27th in triples.
Berbakos wrapped up his career with a .335 batting average on 127 hits in 379 at-bats, cracking 33 doubles, nine triples, and four homers in 101 career games. He scored 91 runs and drove in 85 while stealing 20 bases.
St. Mary's College finished the 2025 season with a 13-16 (11-5 UEC) overall record for the team's fourth consecutive double-digit win campaign. The 11 conference wins are the most since the Seahawks went 10-10 in 2023. SMCM claimed the third seed in the United East Tournament, hosting a playoff game for the first time since 2011 and advancing to the Final Four.
