MECHANICSVILLE, Va. – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's cross country team opened the 2025 campaign at the Spider Alumni Open hosted by the University of Richmond at Pole Green Park.
St. Mary's College finished 13th in the 14-team field, which featured nine NCAA Division I programs. The Seahawks placed fourth among their Division III counterparts – Christopher Newport University (ranked sixth in the South Region), University of Mary Washington, and Marymount (Va.) University – with 405 points.
How It Happened
- Sophomore Ella Mitchell (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) was the first Seahawk to cross the 4K finish line, finishing 107th in the 172-person field with a personal record of 16:15.1.
- Senior Kate Wachter (Takoma Park, Md./Montgomery Blair) came in next for SMCM, placing 123rd with a personal record of her own in 16:35.4.
- First-year Elle Wilson (Westminster, Md./Westminster) made an immediate impact in her collegiate debut, posting a 139th-place finish in 17:24.6.
- Junior Weiya Carter (Towson, Md./Towson) was the fourth Seahawk to score as Carter came in 142nd with a personal record of 17:38.2.
- Rounding out the five SMCM scorers was first-year Charlotte Crabtree (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) in her collegiate debut. Fisher placed 123rd in 22:48.8.
- Juniors Avery Arizzi (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) and Ellie Geiger (California, Md./Leonardtown) both registered personal records as well as Arizzi was sixth for the team in 18:02.4 while Geiger came across in the eighth spot in 18:52.9.
