PHILADELPHIA – The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's cross country team earned a third-place finish at the Philadelphia Cross Classic Saturday morning (Sept. 6). The 5K race was hosted by Thomas Jefferson University at the Belmont Plateau.
St. Mary's College tallied 79 points as the seven-team field featured five NCAA Division II programs. The Seahawks bested their Division III counterparts, Immaculata University and Albright College.
How It Happened
- Sophomore Ella Mitchell (Towson, Md./Bryn Mawr School) and senior Kate Wachter (Takoma Park, Md./Montgomery Blair) switched spots this weekend.
- Wachter was the first Seahawk to cross the finish line, placing ninth out of 58 runners in 21:43.67, while Mitchell came in 11th in 21:53.35 to be SMCM's second finisher.
- First-year Elle Wilson (Westminster, Md./Westminster) and junior Weiya Carter (Towson, Md./Towson) also flipped positions.
- Carter was the team's third finisher this week as she claimed a 19th-place finish in 23:42.19 while Wilson was the fourth one to score for St. Mary's College, taking 22nd in 24:21.30.
- Rounding out the five Seahawk scorers was junior Madison Kingsley (White Hall, Md./North Harford) as Kingsley scored points for the first time this season. She finished 26th in 24:46.97.
