LATHAM, N.Y. – Sophomore
Kyleigh Bland (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) was selected as the United East Conference Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the
league office Monday afternoon (Sept. 8). This marks the second straight week that a member of the St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team has been picked as the United East Defensive Player of the Week.
This is Bland's second career conference defensive player of the week award.
The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team earned a win, a loss, and a draw this past week, including a pair of shutouts.
Bland began the week with three saves in a 1-0 road win over Hood College (Sept. 3). She followed that up with a season-best eight stops in a scoreless draw with No. 2 William Smith College (Sept. 6) at the Salisbury University Classic. Bland concluded her week by denying six shots in a 4-0 loss to Rowan University (Sept. 7), who received votes in the United Soccer Coaches Division III preseason poll.
Bland currently leads the United East with three shutouts while ranking third with a 1.02 goals against average and fifth with an .848 save percentage.
St. Mary's College (2-1-2) will be back in action this Wednesday, Sept. 10, when the Seahawks head to Owings Mills, Md., to face Stevenson University (1-1-1) in a non-conference match at 5 pm.
