LATHAM, N.Y. – First-year
Solomon David (Stephen Decatur) of the St. Mary's College of Maryland men's indoor track & field team was selected as the United East Conference Men's Indoor Field Athlete of the Week as announced by the league office Tuesday morning (Jan. 13). This is David's first career field athlete of the week honor.
David broke the triple jump record as St. Mary's College opened 2026 at the Spartan Invitational hosted by St. Thomas Aquinas College at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex Friday (Jan. 9). He notched the Seahawks' highest finish of the day as David came in fifth in the triple jump with a school record distance of 13.72m. He displaced the previous record of 11.79m set by
Zack Kralec '26 at the SU Invite on Feb. 15, 2025.
The newcomer qualified for the 2026 All-Atlantic Region Track & Field Conference Indoor Championships (Mar. 6-7) with his performance in the triple jump.
David now owns the United East's best mark in the triple jump while ranking fifth in the Mid-Atlantic Region.
SMCM will be back in action this weekend (Jan. 16-17) at the Finn Pincus Invite hosted by Roanoke College in Salem, Va. Action begins Friday at 3 pm while events on Saturday start at 10 am.
