Colin Bashor (Severna Park, Md./Annapolis) was selected as the United East Conference Baseball Pitcher of the Week as announced by the conference office Monday afternoon (April 27). This is Bashor's first career pitcher of the week award.
The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team posted a 2-1-1 record in the final week of the regular season. St. Mary's College notched a 15-2 victory in seven innings at Wilson College on April 21 before at No. 12 Salisbury University (April 22). The Seahawks then earned a 7-6 walk-off victory over Penn State Brandywine before tying 8-8 in six innings in the nightcap.
Bashor led SMCM to the win at Wilson as the 5-11 right-hander threw 6.2 innings with a career-best 11 strikeouts, allowing just one hit in his first career win as a Seahawk.
He is currently tied for ninth in the United East with 35 strikeouts.
St. Mary's College (10-18-1) will be back in action Friday, May 1, when the fifth-seeded Seahawks travel to Lancaster, Pa., to take on fourth-seeded Lancaster Bible College in the second round of the United East Baseball Championship Tournament. It will be a best-of-three series with a doubleheader being played on Friday beginning at 12 pm. Game 3, if necessary, will be played on Saturday, May 2, at 12 pm.
