ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – St. Mary's College of Maryland Associate Director of Athletics and Recreation for Internal Operations Jim Cranmer announced Monday (July 6) the hiring of Doug Corbett as the Seahawks' next head men's and women's tennis coach. Corbett will begin his duties July 8.

"We are excited to welcome Coach Corbett to our Seahawks family. His commitment to developing student-athletes both on the court and in the classroom aligns perfectly with our department's values," Cranmer said. "We are confident that Coach Corbett's leadership, passion for the sport, and dedication to building a positive team culture will have a lasting impact on our men's and women's tennis programs."

Corbett comes to St. Mary's College following five seasons in the same role at NCAA Division III Maryville (Tenn.) College of the Collegiate Conference of the South (CCS).

"Thrilled to be a part of the St. Mary's community! Thank you to the search committee for showing me that we have unique distinctions that make us a special destination," Corbett expressed. "On the court, I am confident we will not only continue to compete for championships, but we will take our program to the next level by becoming competitive in the NCAA Tournament. Excited to provide the excellent experience that our student-athletes truly deserve. Thank you for welcoming me and go Seahawks!"

The Charlottesville, Va., native orchestrated dramatic turnarounds for both Maryville tennis programs during his tenure.

Corbett guided the Scot men to a 12-7 record in 2025-26 for their first winning season, posting a six-match improvement after going 3-10 in his first season (2021-22). He was named the 2025-26 CCS Men's Tennis Coach of the Year after leading the men to the semifinals of the 2026 CCS Tournament as the No. 3 seed.

He coached four all-conference players at Maryville as well as the 2025-26 CCS Men's Tennis Rookie of the Year. Corbett tallied a five-year record of 36-53 (12-18 in conference play) as the Scots' skipper.

On the women's side, Corbett registered a five-year log of 43-44 (22-13 in league action) as the Maryville leader. He mentored seven all-league players, including the 2023-24 CCS Women's Tennis Rookie of the Year. The Scot women turned in a 4.5-match improvement from 2021-22 (4-10) to 2023-24 (12-9). The 12 wins marked the most wins since a 10-5 record in 2012-13.

Prior to Maryville, Corbett spent four seasons at perennial powerhouse, NCAA Division III University of Mary Washington, as an assistant men's coach (2017-2021). He served as an assistant for the women's squad for the 2020-21 season as well. Corbett was named the 2017-18 Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Southeast Men's Tennis Assistant Coach of the Year.

Corbett was a four-year starter at both singles and doubles as well as a two-time team captain at NCAA Division III Randolph College (Lynchburg, Va.), a member of the Old Dominion Athletic Conference.

He graduated from Randolph in 2017 with a B.A. in Sports and Exercise Studies and a minor in Psychology before obtaining his Masters in Coaching and Sport Leadership from Randolph in 2021.
