Nick Haney (Chesapeake Beach, Md./Northern) was selected as the United East Conference Men's Soccer Offensive Player of the Week while senior captain
Zack Reed (Leonardtown, Md./Leonardtown) picked up United East Defensive Player of the Week honors. The conference office made the announcement Monday afternoon (Sept. 7).
This is Haney's third career weekly award while Reed is earning his first-ever United East honor.
The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team tallied a 2-1 record to kick off the 2026 campaign. Haney tallied two goals and two assists while Reed registered 13 saves and a 0.722 save percentage over two games.
Reed started with six stops in a 3-1 loss at Hood College (Sept. 1) before collecting a career-best seven saves in a 4-2 win over Eastern Mennonite University (Sept. 5). The 6-4 keeper is currently tied for third in the conference with 13 saves while ranking sixth with a .722 save percentage.
Haney paced the team with four shots (two on target) in the loss at Hood before assisting on SMCM's first goal of a 5-3 win over Albertus Magnus College (Sept. 4). He finished the Albertus Magnus game with an assist and two shots. The 5-11 forward ended the week with a career-best two goals and an assist for a game-best five points in the victory over EMU as he took six shots (four on target).
Haney leads the United East with 12 shots, six shots on goal, six points, and two goals while coming in second with two assists.
St. Mary's College (2-1-0) will be back in action Wednesday, Sept. 9, when the Seahawks welcome The Catholic University of America (2-0-0) to the Jamie L. Roberts Stadium for a non-conference contest at 4:30 pm.
