Win Streak Halted at Three with Loss at No. 18 JHU

Baltimore, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland women's soccer team saw their three-game win streak snapped Wednesday night as No. 18 Johns Hopkins University handed the Seahawks a 4-0 shutout in non-conference action at Homewood Field.

Johns Hopkins (5-1-1) opened up the scoring at 9:30 as Natalie Held converted a pass from Lisa Irizarry for her second goal of the season.  The Blue Jays scored one more time in the first half as Claire Pelura notched her second goal of 2007 at 43:36.

Ashley Sutherland upped Hopkins' lead to 3-0 at 68:38 with an unassisted goal.  Irizarry netted the final goal at 71:18 off an assist from Johanna Chapin.

The Blue Jays out-shot St. Mary's (4-4) by a margin of 11 to 3, while also holding a 5-1 advantage in corner kicks.

Junior Marie Oben (Glenn Dale, Md./St. Mary's-Annapolis) had a pair of saves in 73 minutes of action before freshman Elizabeth Benge (Bethesda, Md./Walter Johnson) came in relief for the remainder of the contest.  Karen Guszkowski made two stops for JHU.

The Seahawks return to action Tuesday, September 25 when SMCM hosts Elizabethtown College at 4:00 in non-conference action.
