Seahawks Drop 5-1 Decision to Elmhurst

Salisbury, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team had their record evened at 1-1 with a 5-1 loss on Sunday afternoon to Elmhurst College in their second and final game at the Eighth Annual Elmer Lord Classic hosted by Salisbury University.

Elmhurst (1-0-1), who was coming off a 0-0 scoreless draw with Salisbury the day before, exploded in the first half with three unanswered goals to stake a 3-0 lead with 15 minutes remaining in the half.  Jon Brehm netted two goals for the Blue Jays.

Senior forward Alex Pyzik (Bel Air, Md./John Carroll) put the Seahawks (1-1) on the board with his unassisted goal at 37:27, preventing the shutout and cutting Elmhurst's lead to two at halftime.

While St. Mary's was held to only three shots in the second half, the Blue Jays' Jake Pahr notched back-to-back goals at 54:28 and 72:54 to increase Elmhurst's lead to 5-1.

The Blue Jays produced 14 shots and five corner kicks, while St. Mary's had 12 and three, respectively.

Britt Blackwell made three saves and allowed only one goal in the win for Elmhurst, while Seahawk senior Tim Carrier (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) had five goals against and five stops.

St. Mary's men's soccer team returns to action on Wednesday, September 5 when the Hawks host No. 7 Johns Hopkins University at 4:00 at Seahawk Stadium.
