Seahawks Shutout by No. 4 Messiah

Grantham, Pa. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's soccer team dropped a 4-0 decision to three-time defending national champion, No. 4 Messiah College, on Saturday evening in non-conference action.

The Falcons (7-1) took an early 1-0 lead at 16:46 when Mike Rinker found the back of the net for his first of two on the night.  The Seahawks played them tight for the remainder of the first half and senior goalie Tim Carrier (Crownsville, Md./Old Mill) made three stops as Messiah took a 1-0 lead into halftime.

Messiah out-shot the Hawks 15-5 in the second half and it paid off for the Falcons as they tacked on three more.  Rinker netted his second at 51:38 followed by Nick Thompson and Patrick Lenehan at 76:34 and 86:08, respectively.

The Falcons held a 9-1 advantage on corner kicks, while Carrier finished with nine saves in the loss.

The Seahawks return to action on Wednesday, September 25 when St. Mary's hosts Bridgewater College in non-conference action at 4:00.
