Ashland, Va. - The
Randolph-Macon College baseball team used a walk-off hit in each
game to take a pair from St. Mary's College of Maryland Saturday
afternoon in non-conference action. The Yellow Jackets
claimed the first game by a score of 7-6 and then won the nightcap,
4-3.
The Seahawks (1-2) will look to avenge one of the losses on
Sunday when St. Mary's faces the Yellow Jackets (2-3) in the final
contest of this weekend's three-game series at 1:00.

Down 6-3 heading into the bottom of the seventh,
Randolph-Macon's first batter hit a pop fly to second for the first
out of the inning before junior infielder Greg
Meleski (Weston, Fla.) singled then advanced to second on
an error. Sophomore Adam Carpenter
(Richmond, Va.) walked then Meleski and Carpenter each advanced a
base on junior Charlie Hartt's (Richmond, Va.)
single to load the bases.
Sophomores Michael Wallace (Powhatan, Va.) and
J.C. Conway (Sandston, Va.) connected on
back-to-back RBI singles to pull RMC within one with just one out
and set up the scene for junior Jeff Beck's
(Richmond, Va.) two-run single with bases loaded. Meleski
finished the first game going 3-for-4 at the plate with two runs
scored, while four other Yellow Jackets connected on a pair of hits
apiece.
Seniors Mike Broccolino (Millersville, Md./Old
Mill) and Josh Feldman (Cabin John, Md./Walt
Whitman), sophomore outfielder Jacen Killebrew (La
Plata, Md./La Plata), and freshman infielder Matt
Baden (Sunderland, Md./Huntington) each had two hits for
the Seahawks.
Senior right-hander Michael Gerdes (Virginia
Beach, Va.) got the win after just one inning of work as Gerdes
(1-0) allowed just one hit and two walks, while senior right-hander
Caleb Simms (Amherst, Mass./Amherst) suffered the
loss as Simms (0-1) gave up eight hits and three earned runs in
just one inning of action.

This time, the Seahawks knotted the game at 3-3 as
Killebrew scored the tying run on a RMC error to force the extra
inning. However, St. Mary's was unable to generate any
offense in the eighth as the Yellow Jackets' junior left-hander
Dillon Sheads (Culpeper, Va.) retired the side in
order with a pair of strikeouts and a ground out.
Conway stepped up to the plate with runners on first and second
to put through his second RBI single of the day and junior
Steve Craun (Harrisonburg, Va.) scored the
game-winner.
Sheads (1-0) notched the win for the Yellow Jackets with two
inning of work, striking out three and giving up only on hit.
Wallace and Conway each went 3-for-4 at the plate and scored a run
each. Conway drove in two runs in the game while Wallace had
one RBI.
Suffering the loss for St. Mary's was freshman right-hander
Mikel Iraola (Kensington, Md./DeMatha Catholic)
who pitched 4.1 innings, scattering four hits with one strikeout.
