St. Mary's City, Md. - In non-conference
baseball action on Sunday, the St. Mary's College of Maryland split
a doubleheader with McDaniel College. The Seahawks (5-5)
claimed a 6-3 victory in the first game, while McDaniel (1-1)
notched an 11-6 win in the nightcap.
St. Mary's will be idle for the next five days before returning
to Capital Athletic Conference play on Friday, March 7 with a
single game at the University of Mary Washington. First pitch
is set for 2:30.

The Seahawks wasted no time in knocking out six
runs in the first two innings of the game, including five in the
second. It turned out that St. Mary's needed only those six
runs to clinch the opening 6-3 win.
Infielders Matt Baden (Sunderland,
Md./Huntingtown) and Jon Gill (Owings Mills,
Md./Park) and junior catcher J.P. Debrowski
(Sykesville, Md./Glenelg) all went 2-for-3 at the plate.
Baden led the way with two runs and two RBI, while Gill had a run
and Debrowski drove in a run.
Seven different players notched a single for the Green Terror
with junior infielder Brent Toms (Hagerstown,
Md./North Hagerstown) driving in two of McDaniel's three runs.
Freshman right-hander Mikel Iraola (Silver
Spring, Md./DeMatha Catholic) improved to 1-1 on the season as
Iraola gave up three runs on seven hits and struck out four in 4.1
innings.
Junior right-hander Chase Wolf (Middletown,
Md./Middletown) suffered the loss for McDaniel. During Wolf's
(0-1) pitching stint, the Seahawks scored six runs on seven hits
but only one run was earned. He walked four and struck out
one.

The Green Terror rebounded in the nightcap with an 11-6
triumph as McDaniel overcame a 4-0 deficit with two four-run
innings in the fifth and sixth innings. Junior Shawn
Yohe's (Washington Boro, Pa./Penn Manor) play on the mound
and at the plate sparked the Green Terror's come-from-behind win.
Yohe (1-0) finished the second game with a 3-for-5 effort and
three runs scored, while helping his own cause by holding St.
Mary's to two runs on four hits with one strike out and one walk in
three innings of relief. Junior infielder Jon
Zimmerman (Lemoyne, Pa./Cedar Cliff) was 3-for-5 as well
with three RBI.
Sophomore infielder Jay Turen (Clarksville,
Md./River Hill) paced the Seahawks with a 3-for-4 effort with two
runs scored and a double, while freshman infielder Matt
Streich (E. Greenwich, R.I./E. Greenwich) went 2-for-4
with an RBI.
Freshman right-hander Barrett Enix (Suffolk,
Va./Nansemond-Suffolk Academy) took the loss for St. Mary's as Enix
(0-1) allowed the go-ahead runs in 0.2 innings of relief.
