St. Mary's Takes One from York (Pa.)

Box Score

St. Mary's City, Md. - Runs in three consecutive innings propelled the St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team to a 7-2 victory over York (Pa.) College Wednesday afternoon in Capital Athletic Conference action.

After two scoreless innings, the Seahawks (12-12, 5-4 CAC) posted a 2-0 lead in the third as sophomore outfielder Jacen Killebrew (La Plata, Md./La Plata) singled in freshman infielder Matt Baden (Sunderland, Md./Huntingtown) who had tripled to right field as the inning's second batter.  Killebrew then scored on a single by freshman outfielder Matt Streich (E. Greenwich, R.I./E. Greenwich).

St. Mary's followed that up with a run in the fourth as junior infielder Jason Turen (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) scored on senior infielder Mike Lance's (Eldersburg, Md./Centennial) single to right field.

SMCM had a three-run fifth inning to go up 6-0.  Senior DH Mike Broccolino's (Millersville, Md./Old Mill) single to right field brought home Killebrew who had connected on a leadoff triple to left.  Broccolino then came home on junior infielder Blake Beaudoin's (Damascus, Md./Damascus) infield hit to shortstop.  Junior catcher J.P. Debrowski (Sykesville, Md./Glenelg) plated the sixth run on a sac fly to right by Lance.

Turen connected on his second career home run in the seventh to increase the Seahawk lead to 7-0.

Senior right-hander Ryan D'Antuono (Ellicott City, Md./Howard) picked up the win to improve to 4-1 on the season.  D'Antuono threw seven strong innings with six strikeouts and only one walk, scattering four hits.  He now leads the pitching staff with 42 K's and a 3.07 ERA.

With the loss, York (4-15, 3-5 CAC) extends its losing streak to six games.  The Spartans avoided the shutout with a pair of runs on the eighth.

Killebrew, Broccolino, and Turen each notched two hits for the Seahawks.  Turen was 2-for-2 and was hit by York's freshman righty Andrew Rosenzweig (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) twice.

Rosenzweig dropped to 1-3 with the loss as he gave up six earned runs on nine hits with only one strikeout.

Junior outfielder Ryan Poff (York, Pa./Spring Grove) and freshman infielder Kyle Cook (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) had two hits apiece for the Spartans.  Poff had a double and a run.

The Seahawks return to action this Saturday when St. Mary's faces York once again in a conference doubleheader to complete the three-game set.  This time, the Spartans will host SMCM in York, Pennsylvania.  First pitch is set for noon.
