York, Pa. - The St. Mary's
College of Maryland baseball team claimed a 2-1 mark in their
three-game series with York (Pa.) College this season with their
Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) twinbill split at York Saturday
afternoon. The Seahawks (13-13, 6-5 CAC) posted an 11-9
victory in the first game, while York (5-16, 4-6 CAC) staked a 12-0
shutout in the nightcap.

The Seahawks notched five runs in the third and fifth
innings to pick up the 11-9 win. With two innings left, St.
Mary's was up 10-4 before the Spartans put up five runs in the
sixth to come within two with an inning left.
York's Chris Frankenfield pitched a strong
seventh inning to keep the Seahawks in check and the Spartans
within striking distance as Frankenfield surrendered just one hit
to freshman outfielder Bobby Corton (Owings Mills,
Md./Calvert Hall).
Freshman Mikel Iraola (Silver Spring,
Md./DeMatha) recorded his first career save as Iraola registered a
hitless seventh, holding York to a pair of ground outs and a
fielder's choice to third base. Senior right-hander
Brian Briggs (Laurel, Md./Hammond) improved to 3-2
on the season with two earned runs on four hits, two walks, and a
strikeout in 4.0 innings.
Both Corton and freshman outfielder Mark
Dattilio (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) went 2-for-3
with a run each to pace the Seahawks in the win. Dattilio
also drove in one run.
Steve Pokopec led the Spartans with a 3-for-4
effort with three RBI and a double. Tim
Frisch (1-4) took the loss with six earned runs on six
hits in 4.2 innings.

In 30 at-bats, St. Mary's only managed three hits as
the Spartans tallied 12 runs on 18 hits for the shutout triumph.
Dennis Maxim went a perfect 4-for-4 with a pair
of doubles, three runs scored, and an RBI in leading York to
victory.
Matt Austin recorded his second win of 2008,
allowing just three hits in 5.2 innings with four strikeouts and
just one walk.
Sophomore Jon Gill (Owings Mills, Md./Park)
suffered the loss to drop to 2-3 on the year, giving up nine hits
with three walks and one strikeout.
The Seahawks return to action tomorrow when St. Mary's travels
to Fredericksburg, Virginia to wrap up its three-game set with the
University of Mary Washington with a single game at 1:00. The
series is even at 1-1 as the two teams split their CAC doubleheader
on March 9.
