Salisbury, Md. - Freshman forward Chris
Kravatz (Ashburn, Va./Stonebridge) came off the bench to
net his first collegiate goal, helping the St. Mary's College of
Maryland men's soccer team to a 1-1 draw with Keene State College
Saturday afternoon during opening round action of the 2008 Elmer
Lord Memorial Classic hosted by Salisbury University.
Keene State, who received votes in the 2007 NSCAA/adidas®
Division III Final Poll, struck first and early as junior
midfielder Scott Cluff (Kingston, Mass./Silver
Lake) finished off a crossing pass from freshman midfielder
Alex Larson (Williamsport, Pa./Williamsport) just
4:14 into the game.
Seniors Peter Krech (Hollywood,
Md./Leonardtown) and Ben Gould (Walkersville,
Md./Walkersville) assisted on Kravatz's goal at 61:32, forcing the
contest into double overtime.
The Owls turned up the pressure in the first overtime but
couldn't get the ball past Seahawk sophomore goalie Paul
Spranklin (Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills), who finished the
game with eight saves. "He came up with four incredible saves
and we also had a goal called back," said KSC head coach
Ron Butcher.
For the Owls, junior Peter Kersker (Ipswich,
Mass./Ipswich) recorded four stops in the 1-1 double overtime draw.
Tomorrow, the Hawks will take on North Park University in their
final game of the Memorial Classic at 1:00. North Park
dropped a 2-1 decision to No. 22 Salisbury today. KSC will
face the host at 3:00.
