Rocky Mount, N.C. - Six
different Battling Bishops found the back of the net as North
Carolina Wesleyan College posted a 6-1 non-conference men's soccer
victory over St. Mary's College of Maryland Tuesday afternoon.
N.C. Wesleyan (7-6) notched a 2-0 halftime lead behind goals
from freshmen Manuel Pacheco (Vigo, Spain) at
22:51 and Irvin Herrera (Herndon, Va./West Field)
at 42:31.
The Battling Bishops tacked on four more goals in the second
half, starting with midfielders Arkadiusz
Trochowski (Hamburg, Germany) at 55:52 and Edgar
Zaldivar (Alexandria, Va./West Potomac) at 65:33.
The Seahawks (4-11) avoided the shutout when freshman defender
Taylor Lewis (Upper Marlboro, Md./Leonardtown)
sent in a corner kick where sophomore defender Drew
Gainey (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) headed in the ball
for his first collegiate goal at 69:33.
Sophomore midfielder Ousman Sarr (Raleigh,
N.C./Muslim Secondary) and freshman forward Michael
Muhseler (Hanover, Germany) netted the final two goals of
the contest at 78:15 and 82:09, respectively.
Zaldivar paced the Battling Bishops with a goal
and two assists, while Pacheco,
Muhseler, and Herrera added a
goal and an assist.
N.C. Wesleyan outshot the Seahawks 23 to 7, while owning a 10-3
margin in corner kicks.
Freshman Philipp Uttikal (Kirchheim, Germany)
picked up three saves in the win for his third win of the season.
St. Mary's junior goalkeeper Paul Spranklin
(Columbia, Md./Oakland Mills) made eight stops in the loss.
The Seahawks will return to action this Saturday, October 24
when St. Mary's travels to York, Pa. to face No. 17 York College in
Capital Athletic Conference action at 3:00 pm.
