Washington, D.C. - The St.
Mary's College of Maryland baseball team snapped its three-game
losing streak Wednesday with a 25-1 trouncing of Gallaudet
University in seven innings as the Capital Athletic Conference
contest was called because of darkness.
St. Mary's (10-6, 4-3 CAC) scored at least two runs in all but
one inning. The Seahawks notched 25 runs on 13 hits,
including 13 runs on six hits and four errors in the sixth.
Junior centerfielder Jacen Killebrew (La Plata,
Md./La Plata) led the visitors with three hits, including a triple,
in four at-bats, crossing home plate three times and driving in one
run. Senior third baseman Blake Beaudoin
(Damascus, Md./Damascus) connected on two singles in four at-bats,
while driving in two runs and scoring a pair of runs.
Sophomore first baseman Ian Simpson-Shelton
(Upper Marlboro, Md./DeMatha) became the second Seahawk to pick up
a home run this season as Simpson-Shelton tallied
a grand slam in the sixth inning.
Freshman RHP Mike Victory (Westford,
Mass./Westford Academy) improved to 2-0 on the season as
Victory pitched 3.0 innings with three hits and
two strikeouts.
The Bison (2-8-1, 0-7 CAC) avoided the shutout with their lone
run in the sixth as sophomore Jay Kowalczyk
(Germantown, Md./Model Secondary) singled to drive in freshman
Jeremy Shepps (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland
Valley) who had reached on a Seahawk error.
Freshman Ryan Hastings (Cherry Valley,
Mass./MSSD) dropped to 1-2 as Hastings allowed 12
runs (eight earned) on seven hits in 5.0 innings. He struck
out three and walked two. Hastings also led
Gallaudet at the plate with a 2-for-4 effort.
The Seahawks return to action tomorrow when St. Mary's hosts No.
19 Christopher Newport University in a non-conference nine-inning
single game at 3:00 in the Hawk's Nest.
