York, Pa. - Seven strong
innings from sophomore RHP Andy Rosenzweig (Glen
Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) propelled the York College of Pennsylvania
baseball team to a 6-2 victory over St. Mary's College of Maryland
in Capital Athletic Conference action Friday afternoon.
Rosenzweig (4-1) struck out five Seahawks and
walked only one as he scattered just four hits, giving up two runs
(one earned) in helping York improve to 14-2 overall (5-0 CAC).
Junior outfielder Mike Connolly (Selden,
N.Y./Newfield) and sophomore infielder C.T.
Stanley (Timonium, Md./Calvert Hall) each went 2-for-4 at
the plate to pace the Spartan offense.
Stanley drove in two runs with his fifth home run
of the season in the sixth inning, while Connolly
scored one run and had an RBI.
St. Mary's (10-8, 4-4 CAC) got on the scoreboard first in the
fourth inning as senior catcher J.P. Debrowski's
(Sykesville, Md./Glenelg) groundout to second base allowed
sophomore shortstop Matt Baden (Sunderland,
Md./Huntingtown) to cross home plate. Baden
had tripled to right center in his at-bat.
The Spartans responded with two runs in the fourth as senior
outfielder Ryan Poff (York, Pa./Spring Grove)
doubled to right center to score Connolly who led
off the inning with a single through the right side. York's
second run came when Poff scored following a
double play.
The Seahawks knotted the contest at 2-all in the fifth as
sophomore leftfielder Mark Dattilio (Hagerstown,
Md./North Hagerstown) scored on a throwing error by the YCP third
baseman after leading off the inning with a single to center field.
YCP claimed the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth as
sophomore pinch runner Chris Young (Mechanicsburg,
Pa./Red Land) came home on sophomore infielder Kyle
Cook's (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) double to left
field. Cook then scored on
Connolly's two-out single to right center.
York sealed the win with
Stanley's two-run homer in the
sixth as freshman pinch runner Shaun Rutherford
(Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) also came home on the play.
Debrowski finished the afternoon with a 2-for-3
effort at the plate with an RBI to pace the Seahawks, while
Dattilio went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Junior RHP Jon Gill (Owings Mills, Md./Park)
suffered the loss for St. Mary's as Gill (2-5)
gave up all six runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings. He struck
out two Spartans while walking two.
St. Mary's returns to action tomorrow as the Seahawks host York
in a doubleheader to wrap up the three-game series. First
pitch will be at 1:00.
