Rosenzweig's Pitching Leads York Past Seahawks

Box Score

York, Pa. - Seven strong innings from sophomore RHP Andy Rosenzweig (Glen Rock, Pa./Susquehannock) propelled the York College of Pennsylvania baseball team to a 6-2 victory over St. Mary's College of Maryland in Capital Athletic Conference action Friday afternoon.

Rosenzweig (4-1) struck out five Seahawks and walked only one as he scattered just four hits, giving up two runs (one earned) in helping York improve to 14-2 overall (5-0 CAC).

Junior outfielder Mike Connolly (Selden, N.Y./Newfield) and sophomore infielder C.T. Stanley (Timonium, Md./Calvert Hall) each went 2-for-4 at the plate to pace the Spartan offense.  Stanley drove in two runs with his fifth home run of the season in the sixth inning, while Connolly scored one run and had an RBI.

St. Mary's (10-8, 4-4 CAC) got on the scoreboard first in the fourth inning as senior catcher J.P. Debrowski's (Sykesville, Md./Glenelg) groundout to second base allowed sophomore shortstop Matt Baden (Sunderland, Md./Huntingtown) to cross home plate.  Baden had tripled to right center in his at-bat.

The Spartans responded with two runs in the fourth as senior outfielder Ryan Poff (York, Pa./Spring Grove) doubled to right center to score Connolly who led off the inning with a single through the right side.  York's second run came when Poff scored following a double play.

The Seahawks knotted the contest at 2-all in the fifth as sophomore leftfielder Mark Dattilio (Hagerstown, Md./North Hagerstown) scored on a throwing error by the YCP third baseman after leading off the inning with a single to center field.

YCP claimed the lead for good in the bottom of the fifth as sophomore pinch runner Chris Young (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Red Land) came home on sophomore infielder Kyle Cook's (Pylesville, Md./North Harford) double to left field.  Cook then scored on Connolly's two-out single to right center.

York sealed the win with Stanley's two-run homer in the sixth as freshman pinch runner Shaun Rutherford (Levittown, N.Y./Island Trees) also came home on the play.

Debrowski finished the afternoon with a 2-for-3 effort at the plate with an RBI to pace the Seahawks, while Dattilio went 2-for-4 with a run scored.

Junior RHP Jon Gill (Owings Mills, Md./Park) suffered the loss for St. Mary's as Gill (2-5) gave up all six runs on nine hits in 5.1 innings.  He struck out two Spartans while walking two.

St. Mary's returns to action tomorrow as the Seahawks host York in a doubleheader to wrap up the three-game series.  First pitch will be at 1:00.
