St. Mary's City, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team snapped a 12-game losing streak against Salisbury University Wednesday afternoon as the Seahawks notched a 2-1 Capital Athletic Conference victory over No. 2 Salisbury.

St. Mary's (11-10, 5-6 CAC) last win over the Sea Gulls came on March 9, 2004 as the Seahawks posted a 7-4 win at Salisbury.  Today's victory snaps the home team's four-game losing skid as well.

Junior RHP Jon Gill (Owings Mills, Md./Park) threw a near complete game as Gill (3-5) pitched 8.0 innings and yielded an unearned run, scattering six hits with three strikeouts and three walks.  Gill faced one batter in the ninth before freshman closer Matt Siciliano (Ardmore, Pa./Lower Merion) came in to register his fifth save of the season.

The contest remained scoreless until the fourth inning when the Seahawks capitalized on a rundown play involving sophomore shortstop Matt Baden (Sunderland, Md./Huntingtown) and junior leftfielder Justin Rabon (Charlotte Hall, Md./La Plata).  Rabon led off the inning with an infield single then Baden got on base with a fielder's choice to third base, while Rabon advanced to second on an error by the third baseman as well as third on the same play.  Baden got caught in a rundown which allowed Rabon to steal home in the confusion, while Baden ended up stealing second.

St. Mary's struck again in the fifth with another rundown play.  Junior centerfielder Jacen Killebrew (La Plata, Md./La Plata) connected on a two-out infield single, advancing sophomore right fielder Bobby Corton (Owings Mills, Md./Calvert Hall) to third who singled to right field then advanced to second on a throwing error by Salisbury senior RHP Eric Willey.  With Killebrew in a rundown, Corton scored before Killebrew was tagged out to end the inning.

The Seahawks had four hits in the game as Killebrew led the way with a 2-for-3 effort, while Rabon and Corton each had a single and a run scored.

Salisbury (17-4, 5-3 CAC) came into today's game ranked No. 2 in the D3baseball.com/NCBWA Top 25 poll and No. 19 in the ABCA/Collegiate Baseball NCAA Division III poll.

The Sea Gulls avoided the shutout in the ninth.  Senior Cody Collins led off with a single followed by senior Jordan Crystal's single.  Then sophomore Devon Quaglietta reached on an error by Siciliano to load the bases.  Siciliano secured the inning's first out as he struck out sophomore Brian Green before hitting junior Trevor Cobb, allowing Collins to score Salisbury's lone run.  The Seahawks then had a forced out at home for the second out before Siciliano got senior Randy Boyle to fly out to right field.

Willey (4-2) suffered his second loss of the season despite striking out eight with no walks and two unearned runs on four hits.  Collins and Crystal were both 2-of-4 at the plate.

St. Mary's will look to complete the three-game sweep this Saturday as the Seahawks face Salisbury again in a CAC doubleheader at Salisbury at 1:00.
