Game Program

St. Mary's City, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland baseball team took two Capital Athletic Conference games from Gallaudet University Sunday afternoon on Senior Day as the Seahawks posted a 9-3 victory in the first game before using seven runs in the bottom of the fifth inning to break a 7-7 tie en route to a 14-7 win the nightcap.

In game one, St. Mary's (13-12, 7-8 CAC) bolstered an early 1-0 first inning lead with six runs in the bottom of the second.  The Seahawks went to score nine runs on nine hits as junior first baseman Jon Gill (Owings Mills, Md./Park) and sophomore right fielder Bobby Corton (Owings Mills, Md./Calvert Hall) both went 2-for-3 at the plated.  The duo also scored two runs apiece while Corton drove in one run.

Senior RHP Kevin DiManna (Kensington, Md./Bullis) picked up his first victory of the season as DiManna (1-0) struck out three and scattered two hits in 3.0 innings.

For Gallaudet, sophomore Zane Noschese (Pittsburgh, Pa./Western Pennsylvania School f/t Deaf) connected on two hits in three at-bats with a run scored.  Freshman John Bingham (Mullica Hill, N.J./Model Secondary School f/t Deaf) suffered the loss, giving up all nine runs and nine hits in 5.0 innings with seven walks.

The fifth inning of the second game was a slugfest as the Bison (2-17-1, 0-15 CAC) notched five runs on four hits as well as capitalized on a pair of St. Mary's errors to knot the contest at 7-all.  The Seahawks responded with seven runs on seven hits in the bottom of the fifth as junior catcher Trey Cole (Chevy Chase, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) sparked the home team's offense with a one-out, RBI single up the middle.

The 7-7 score was actually the second time that the game was tied as Gallaudet struck first in the first inning with a pair of runs before the Seahawks answered with two runs of their own in the bottom of the first to equalize the game at 2-all.

Senior third baseman Blake Beaudoin (Damascus, Md./Damascus), Gill, and Cole each tallied two hits to pace the Seahawk offense.  Freshman RHP Eric Gronbeck (Owings, Md./Northern) notched the win as Gronbeck (2-0) pitched 3.0 innings of relief, yielding five runs (none earned) on four hits.

The Bison were led by freshman Ryan Hastings' (Cherry Valley, Mass./MSSD) 2-for-4 effort at the plate, while senior John Moore, Jr. (Frederick, Md./Maryland School f/t Deaf) was tagged with the loss as Moore allowed 14 runs (nine earned) on 11 hits in 5.0 innings.

St. Mary's looks to continue its winning ways on Tuesday, March 31 when the Seahawks travel to Washington, D.C. to take on Catholic University in non-conference action at 3:30.
