York, Pa. - Junior RHP
Jason Christenberry (Yoe, Pa./Dallastown) threw a
gem in the first round of the 2009 Capital Athletic Conference
Baseball Tournament as Christenberry's one-hitter
kept second-seeded York (Pa.) College in the winner's bracket with
a 6-0 blanking of fifth-seeded St. Mary's College of Maryland
Thursday.
Christenberry (6-1) pitched a no-hitter for 8.0
innings before giving up a double to St. Mary's second batter of
the ninth inning - sophomore shortstop Matt Baden
(Sunderland, Md./Huntingtown). Christenberry
fanned 10 of the 32 Seahawk batters he faced, while only walking
three as he went 8.2 innings.
York (24-7) took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning as senior
DH Matt Austin (Shrewsbury, Pa./Susquehannock)
connected on a two-out single to the right field to score junior
outfielder Mike Connolly (Selden, N.Y./Newfield)
who had singled through the right side in his at-bat.
The Spartans tacked on another run in the fourth when senior
outfielder Ryan Poff (York, Pa./Spring Grove) came
home on junior infielder Matt Monti's (Easton,
Pa./Easton) two-out single to left field.
Poff led off the inning with a walk then stole
second.
YCP exploded for four runs in the fifth inning following an RBI
single to right field by Connolly and a three-run
homer to left field by Poff.
Junior RHP Jon Gill (Owings Mills, Md./Park)
was saddled with the loss as Gill (3-7) allowed
six runs on 11 hits in 6.0 innings.
St. Mary's (13-17) returns to action tomorrow as the Seahawks
host sixth-seeded University of Mary Washington in second round
play at 3:30 at the Hawk's Nest.
