Seahawks Stomp Hood

Box Score

Frederick, Md. - The St. Mary's College of Maryland men's lacrosse team posted a dominating 17-2 Capital Athletic Conference victory over Hood College Tuesday afternoon.

Sophomore attackman Dennis Rosson (Severna Park, Md./Severn) paced the Seahawks with a game-high six points on two goals and four assists, while freshman attackman Will Dempster (Bethesda, Md./Walt Whitman) notched his first collegiate points as Dempster tallied a hat trick and a helper.  Midfielders Chris Becraft (Rockville, Md./Good Counsel) and Billy Scheurer (Telford, Pa./Souderton Area) each contributed two goals and an assist apiece.

St. Mary's (6-5, 4-2 CAC) got to work early and often as the Seahawks shutout Hood in the first period and netted six unanswered goals from six different players.  The visitors opened up the second quarter with four straight, including back-to-back goals from Rosson, before freshman middie Troy Hubbard (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) tallied an unassisted goal at 4:20 to stop the onslaught and put the Blazers on the board.  Scheurer scored his second of the day to give SMCM an 11-1 halftime lead.

Dempster scored two consecutive goals and Becraft chipped in one as the Seahawks tacked on three more in the third stanza.  Sophomore midfielder Dominique Shorter (Baltimore, Md./Lansdowne) picked up the Blazers' (1-12, 0-6 CAC) final tally at 4:08 to be down 14-2 at the start of the fourth period.

Sophomore attackman Sean Reitenbach (Westminster, Md./Winters Mill) recorded his first two collegiate goals as the Seahawks outscored Hood, 3-0, in the final period.

The Seahawks dominated all offensive categories: shots (58-9), ground balls (49-25), and face-offs (19-of-23).

Senior captain Marc DiPasquale (Fallston, Md./Boys' Latin) was flawless on the face-off as DiPasquale was a perfect 17-of-17, including winning all 14 face-offs in the first half.  He also scooped up a game-high six ground balls.

In goal, sophomore Pat Simpson (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) made three saves and gave up both goals in 45 minutes, while sophomore JJ Strombosky (Westford, Mass./Rivers) turned away one shot in the final 15 minutes of the game.

For Hood, sophomore Nicholas O'Brien (Baltimore, Md./Woodlawn) picked up 14 stops.

St. Mary's returns to action this Friday, April 10 as the Seahawks welcome No. 5 Salisbury University to Seahawk Stadium for a league tilt at 4:00.
