St. Mary's City, Md. - Forwards Chris
Quamina (Glen Burnie, Md./Mount Saint Joseph) and
Benard Agyingi (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) both found
the back of the net in leading St. Mary's College of Maryland to
its first victory of the 2009 season during the opening round of
the inaugural Capital Athletic Conference/Old Dominion Athletic
Conference Men's Soccer Challenge. The Seahawks (1-3) posted
a 2-0 shutout victory over Randolph-Macon College Saturday
afternoon.
The two Seahawk goals were also the team's first tallies of the
season as St. Mary's came into today's action having been outscored
8-0 in three games.
St. Mary's boasted a 1-0 lead at halftime as
Quamina located the lower left corner at 26:16 as
he picked up a short pass from sophomore forward Ted
Scharfenberg (Holbrook, N.Y./St. John the Baptist) in the
middle of the penalty box.
Sophomore midfielder Matt Grady (Rockville,
Md./Walter Johnson) and Agyingi gave the Seahawks
a 2-0 cushion at 84:23 when Grady sent in a pass
from 25 yards into the box where Agyingi picked it
up and fired it into the middle of the left side netting.
Junior goalkeeper Paul Spranklin (Columbia,
Md./Oakland Mills) notched three saves in registering his first
shutout of the season.
Senior Jason DePre (Sicklerville, N.J.) tallied
11 stops in the loss.
St. Mary's will return to action tomorrow as the Seahawks wrap
up action in the CAC/ODAC Challenge with a match-up against
Bridgewater (Va.) College at 1:00 p.m.
